How this calculator works

Nisab is calculated as 85 grams of pure (24K) gold at today's local price — currently 15631.50 SGD. Gross zakatable assets = cash + gold value + investments + receivables + business assets. Deduct immediate debts due within one year. If net zakatable wealth ≥ nisab and has been held for one lunar year (hawl), Zakat due = 2.5% of net zakatable wealth. Silver nisab is not used in this version.

Zakat al-Mal is the obligatory annual alms-giving on wealth in Islam — one of the Five Pillars. It equals 2.5% of net zakatable wealth above the nisab threshold, provided the wealth has been held for one lunar year (hawl).

Nisab is the minimum wealth threshold above which Zakat becomes obligatory. This calculator uses the gold nisab standard: 85 grams of pure (24K) gold at today's local price — currently 15631.50 SGD. If your net wealth reaches this threshold and you've held it for one lunar year, Zakat is due.

Zakatable assets include: cash, bank balances and savings; gold and silver at market value; stocks and liquid investments; receivables you expect to collect; liquid business assets; unspent rental income; and cryptocurrency. Generally excluded: your primary residence, personal-use vehicle, and household furniture.

You may deduct immediate liabilities due within the next lunar year — such as rent due, upcoming loan instalments, and overdue bills. Long-term debts like mortgages are generally not fully deductible. Consult a qualified scholar for your specific situation.

Zakat is due after one full lunar year (approximately 354 days) of holding wealth above the nisab. Many Muslims choose to pay during Ramadan for the increased reward, but it can be paid at any point in the year. It helps to set a consistent annual date for calculation.

This is a matter of scholarly difference. The Hanafi school considers all gold zakatable including jewellery worn personally. The Maliki, Shafi'i and Hanbali schools generally exempt gold jewellery that is in active personal use. Most South Asian expats in GCC follow the Hanafi view and include jewellery. Consult a scholar from your own tradition.
